At the age of five, Aaron Reeve Mendes discovered his passion for chess, setting the stage for a remarkable journey ahead. With an extraordinary talent and unwavering dedication, Aaron quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the highest FIDE rated U10 player globally in August 2022, a feat unmatched by any other Canadian player. Currently ranked second among U12 chess players worldwide as of February 2024, Aaron continues to amaze with his exceptional skills and determination, solidifying his status as the youngest Canadian chess player to surpass the FIDE rating of 2300.   • In July 2023, at the Canadian Open Chess Championship in Calgary, Canada, Aaron showcased his proficiency in classical chess, finishing with an impressive score of 7 out of 10. This achievement secured him a tie for sixth place overall and a ninth-place ranking with a performance rating of 2350. Aaron's consistent excellence was highlighted by his hard-earned draws against world- famous players, GM Evgeny Bareev (FIDE rating 2631) and Illya Nyzhnyk (FIDE rating 2642).
  • Aaron's remarkable journey in 2023 continued as he won against GM Rozentalis, Eduardas, in the 2023 Excelsior June GM Norm tournament held in Toronto, further solidifying his position as a rising chess sensation.
  • In September, Aaron won the 4th Annual ChessKid YSCC. Aaron's journey to YSCC glory was paved with sensational victories, none more captivating than his Semifinals clash against FM Oro Faustino.
